More Personal.

I feel like I'm breaking the rules by posting something not about clothing or fashion, or menial things going on in my life. But I have to keep reminding myself that this is my personal blog. I'll write whatever my little heart desires and apologize if you as the reader are disappointed. But not too much, because it's whatever.

So every night for the past few days, I have switched my TV to CNN to keep myself updated with the situations in Libya. For those of you who aren't aware, stand up and kick yourself (with love of course), then continue reading:

The Libyan dictator Muammar Qaddafi has been threatening and killing Libyans because of peaceful, pro-democracy protests. More than 1000 people have died already, and this started about 1 week ago. He is killing all that stand in his way of keeping his position and doesn't care for his people at all. I mean, this is a country that is abundant in oil, yet most of Libya's youth suffers from malnutrition and poverty. The extent of this man's selfishness leaves me taken aback. Especially since it's been going on for so long and we have not given so much as a sidelong glance. I always relate it to the Holocaust- how people didn't even know that thousands of innocent people were murdered. A few days ago I saw a video from the streets of Tripoli and I was so upset. All of these innocent people with blood on their hands, running from the sounds of gunshots and screams. If you have the guts, please educate yourself and watch. It really made me worry about them, getting just a few seconds of what they saw.

Qaddafi even ordered that mercenaries who refused to kill the protestors be shot- and they were. Hundreds of soldiers were killed because they had the humanity to own up to their actions and stop before the murdering started. He even blames Al Qaeda, Egyptian protestors, Western Democracy, and other ridiculous claims/excuses. It's so perverse, upsetting, and horrible. I can't really talk about it any more without reiterating my sadness and anger, so I will leave a few links.

That was a pretty horrid summary, I apologize, but here's a better explanation:

Anderson Cooper's Twitter(Short sweet and to the point!): http://twitter.com/andersoncooper

Please, please educate yourself with world issues and keep the citizens of Libya in your heart and prayers. I promise you that it affects our country as well as the rest of the world. Seeing those gas prices slowly rise up? Yeah, thanks Qaddafi.

I have grown so grateful in the wake of injustice. If there were a lesson to learn, which I believe there always is, it's to be grateful we live in a country where we have a voice. We have homes, we get an education, we are free.

I am grateful for my family, friends, and you, for taking the time out to read this post.

  1. Word. I can't even being to wrap my head around how atrocious this is. And yeah, every time I hear people complain about stupid things (I'm guilty too more often than not...) I feel stupid. We're insanely lucky and most people don't even realize it.

  2. Thanks for writing about something more personal, not just fashion. I think we need to be constantly reminded about the troubles in other parts of the world, not just our consumerist lifestyles.
