party like it's december 20th.

Happy Holidays, and a big congratulations to the surviving members of the end of the world. We did it, guys!

But yes, finals are over and relaxation has commenced! As you can tell I've already started on the gluttonous consumption of sugar: I made the infamous Jacques Torres cookies and they were hands down THE BEST COOKIES I'VE EVER MADE IN MY LIFE LIKE EVER. Everyone loved them, and it was so fun to wrap them up in wax paper and make little gifts out of them. I also bought a special Christmas cupcake from Caketini (did I mention that I totally use my friends' employee discounts wherever they work?). I'm a glutton, I have a problem.

But it's so very nice to be taking pictures and blogging again, I kind of forget what to do when I'm not in school, does that happen to you? Like I always take up hobbies over the break to keep me busy. This year it's baking, knitting, blogging, and playing league of legends. Yes, you heard me correctly. I'm not proud of it, per se, but it keeps me busy and it's addicting.

PLEASE HELP ME.
I hope your break/holiday season is going amazingly!!

bug bites & sore ankles.

There was one very important thing I learned about myself last week whilst camping:

I'm not a camper. (If you couldn't tell by the wonderfully optimistic title of this post.)

Don't get me wrong- camping in Oregon is definitely something for the bucket list. The scenery is just breathtaking, whether you're a hippie or not. But, I think it's the community bathrooms. Call me high-maintenance, I don't care, but just the very thought of walking barefoot on a mystery floor just gives me the chills. And this is why I'm a microbiology major... But I loved all of the green!

Except for the bees.. I get that they're important for pollination and stuff... but there was this one blasted bee that would literally follow me for an hour at the beach. Drove me nuts. I was running, in circles, at the beach, looking like an idiot. It's okay Mr. Bee. I forgive you, if that's how you wanna play it.

The campsite was near Tillamook so you know we had to go to the cheese factory. The whole town smelled like, you know, cows and their byproducts but if you get past that it's lovely. Stinky cheese, salami and wine's the way to go. :) Camping was definitely a grateful experience. I daresay I'd do it again. Just because I'm that crazy.

my week in random pictures

I'm really hankerin' for an instagram. Anyway, I hope your Memorial Day Weekend went amazeballingly! I had a great weekend up in Seattle with the family. We went on a ferry to Bainbridge Island and went to some Scandinavian town I think? Anyway, the food there was simply off the freaking chain. Like, enough to make me sound like an urban hip person. And after all of that epic-ness we went back to Portland by train (car broke down, whatever) for the first time! It was the coolest thing to me, and yeah. Best Memorial Day weekend ever? I think so. :)

me in all my lopsided bang glory & graduation.

No outfit details really, but got the dress at H&M for dirt cheap!

My younger brother graduated high school this past week and I got to come back from Oregon to see them at the University of Phoenix Stadium. I was there just last year as Senior Class President making the primary speech! But enough about me...

My brother and his girlfriend graduated and you can bet your bedazzled bums I screamed when they called his name until my throat went raw. Not that is was SUCH an achievement that he graduated high school (if he didn't we would disown him. Just kidding! [but not really]) However I think it was the fact that I was just there for him. He claimed he didn't care if I showed up or not, and maybe he didn't. Truth is- it really mattered to me as a sister that I be there to celebrate an accomplishment of his. But that was my week. Now excuse me as I claw at my throat because of the dang pollen in this forsaken northwest air.

First round of Spotlight Sunday tomorrow!! Again, if you're interested in being a guest blogger for a future edition of Spotlight Sunday, shoot me an email: soychildATgmailDOTcom and we'll discuss yes?

Happy Valentine's Day!

I hope you all had a marvelous Valentine's Day, single or not! Some people seriously loathe this day and I don't understand it, it's like people make finding their "one true love" their single mission in life. But honey, that's a totally different blog post and a very different mood along side it. My suitemate made some suh-weet valentines for all the single ladies (put your hands up!) and it was simply another day. If done correctly, every day with your loved one is Valentine's Day, don't give in to the corporate drivel and pressures to buy chocolates and cards. Love is more than what those ads tell you!

starbucks

I'm spiraling down the caffeine addiction road. I need it at least once a day to survive throughout my classes. And I'm starting to know the ropes of Starbucks and their drinks as well. (Somewhat attributed to my best friend getting a job at Starbucks)

Anyway I'm alive! I've been super stressed and busy this weekend, two of my first exams are this week and I've been consuming myself with studying, therefore, no blogging, no facebook (I'm terrible at restricting that), no fun time! My reward will come Thursday, when all exams have finished and I get to relax! I hope you are all doing swimmingly!

teapots and flowers

Outfit details-
Dress: Thrift Store in Portland
Knee highs: The Icing
Boots (Promise I wore them): Charlotte Russe
Headband: Handmade

Heyyooo! How are you guys doin'?
I'm doing quite well, thanks for asking! It's been a lovely MLK day. I went to the hospital for my volunteering interview and am so happy to help over there!

I don't really know why I love hospitals so much- it's a little morbid and disturbing but let me explain! I've been in a hospital for personal reasons, and it's not fun. Everyone there is sick (duh) and a little sad, if not REALLY sad. That's the place where everyone needs help, and I love helping. I can't wait for orientation!

This has got to be one of my most favorite dresses, lovingly given the title of "The Spinster Dress".Which upon further inspection:
Features teapots, flowers, and teacups! If that doesn't put my spinsterdom into an overwhelming head start I don't know what does!

On a different note, a friend of mine will be participating in the LIVESTRONG marathon in Austin, and she's  made a goal of raising $500 for the LIVESTRONG charity against cancer. If you hate cancer as much as I do, please consider donating to this cause. If you do I'd be so darn happy I'll give you a digital hug and cookies. Your choice on the cookies. Yup. And as for the hug, be prepared for the greatest of your life. Check out her story and site here:

Other than that, I hope you had a wonderful MLK day and gave thanks to those who fought for the greater good, even if it meant personal sacrifice.  You know, Like Martin Luther King Jr. :)

don't be that person

Hello stranger!!

Long time no see, eh? I haven't had the opportunity to take pictures on campus (I get enough judgmental stares just walking to class) so here are a few gems I still had on my computer.

I just want to ask: are any of you super thankful sometimes? Because honestly, I have the best, loving family as well as lifelong friends that I found pretty early. And as self-deprecating as it sounds, I have no idea how this came to be. I am certainly blessed and sometimes I feel like I don't give thanks or appreciate my life as I could. My friend told me that one of the top regrets that people have is that they didn't keep in touch with old friends. Don't be the person to regret that. But I'm like Oxygen on the periodic table and friends are electrons. I'm so sorry for the reference, gotta geek out somehow...

What I mean to say is that I love having good friends, and when I do have them, I keep them close. I will always talk to the special people in my life, no matter what age, because I want them to know that I care enough to have them know I will always be there. The same thing goes for my family. We all are not perfect which I grant, but that's kind of why I love them. We're similar. Like triangles of a different magnitude that still retain the same angular prop- Okay I'll stop.

To Soyoung, 2012-2013

To the wonderful readers- I do this every year, and have every year's post on either my blog or myspace (yeah, it's an old tradition). I write a letter to myself for the future year and I just think it's a fun way to keep a record of things. :)

To the future Soyoung in 2012-2013:

Live it up because you're dying in a year! I kid, I kid, hopefully you won't ever believe that cray Mayan nonsense. I don't know where I heard it, but someone said "I don't know why everyone thinks that the world is going to end in their lifetime. Honestly, we aren't that important so get over it." True. Dat. Why must we put ourselves on a pedestal? As much as I'd like fame and fortune and to make a mark in history, we have to realize that life is infinite. We're just a microscopic blip on the timeline of life itself. That's a long time, y'know?

Didn't mean to make it so depressing, but it kinda makes you refocus, and figure out what purpose your life will lead. And that, my dear self, is to bring happiness to others, or at least make another person's life that much easier. Help others. I've said this for years and that ain't changing. I realized I can be stubborn as hell but that's not something I need to fix right away :) Don't be afraid to stand your ground, especially for others. Especially for family.

Also, can I say that I'm proud of you? Me? Whatever... But you said to have an "unwavering sense of self" and let's please keep that, okay? Yeah, you're socially oblivious and awkward in every absolute way, but hey, that's who I am. It's part of my charm or whateva. A lot of things have happened this year and my maturity was tested. College! You started college and SURVIVED the first semester! At ASU! Dear Lord that is a feat in and of itself. Don't be conceited. Remember we don't deserve anything at all. That oreo after you studied 4 hours? You don't deserve it. You can have it, sure, but let's not get carried away. Stay humble, and kind. Also, don't care so much about what others think about you, as much of a pet peeve as it is to you. They don't know you. So many things have happened, it'd take too long to write down, but if I were to sum this whole year down to one thing:

The key to happiness really is an unwavering sense of self. Don't forget to thank your family for their love, strangers for their kindness, and God for the blessings you didn't deserve but still somehow got.

Good luck, you can do this.

Christmas swag.

And by swag, I mean what I got for Christmas, not the ridiculous term that comes out of everybody's mouths and/or facebook statuses. (ie: I got the new Concords! #swag)

Anyway, wassup everybody?! I hope the holidays were wonderful for you all, I definitely enjoyed it. More pic of my winnings to come, I just bought myself a DSLR with my Christmas money and that baby takes up all of my attention for now :) I'm testing out a bunch of different effects and stuffs. Any tips are certainly appreciated.

Oh and the bangs! I always chop off a good deal of my hair whenever I'm bored. :) So yeah there's that change....

wintertime.

Finals over = stress over!

I'm sorry for the lack of updates, I've just been a sloth for the past few days, waking up in the PM, sleeping at four in the morning. Ahh, life's great, isn't it? My other friends haven't arrived from out of state quite yet so I haven't been going out, which explains the lack of outfit posts...

Yep, just playing Minecraft into the wee hours of the morning, rewatching Dexter and 30 Rock. I thought the lack of schoolwork would stress me out, but I think I'm really good at being a lazy couch potato :) How have you all been?!

PS- And yes, those are cream puffs that look like little mice. Soo good.
PPS- I feel I should update my 'Other Blogs' list, if you're up for a blog link swap (post my link on your blog, yours on mine) please just leave a comment below and I'd love to keep in touch!! ♥

a million miles away

outfit details:
v-neck: some small boutique
dress: papaya
knee-highs: icing
boots: charlotte russe

I'm back! I'm so sorry for the wait (for the whopping 2 of you that read this) I've been miserably sick for the past week and I'd just been plain ol' scrubbin' with sweatpants and t-shirts. I suspect I got the virus from a maniac mother at Black Friday. Stay away guys and gals, stay away. Not to mention finals. I just finished my ungodly chemistry final and calc will be later tonight. Wish me luck!

And can I add that I was slightly disappointed with myself for wearing sweats in public? I don't know, I have these ridiculous standards when it comes to dress. I went through a period where I refused to wear flip-flops, but alas, I live in Arizona. I think dressing well is vital and that's always what my hero, Audrey Hepburn, lived by :)

so lazy

Pictures left over from Thanksgiving! I'm wearing my comfy, stretchy food-eating clothes!

I must say I love spending time with my family. They drive me nuts sometimes but my answer will always be the same: I realize the importance of my family and take advantage of that. I try to see my family whenever I can and they're the most important aspect of my life. I don't know what I would do without them and I'm glad I realize that. With Christmas coming up I'm ecstatic to relax (finals are almost over) and just enjoy the company of the people I love.

i spy an air freshener, water jug, and ukulele :)

Outfit details:
Dress- Wet Seal (1 cent sale! Holla! [Yeah I just said Holla. Deal, yo.])
Sweater- Kohl's
Tights- Ross
Shoes- DSW

Oh yes. Judging from the Christmas lights I AM ready for Christmas. If you guys ever meet me I probably won't look like this, I do love dresses and they're my go-to ensemble, but I just get uncomfortable with the people staring at me as I walk to class. Have you noticed that we size up people we stare at? You know, looking at their clothes, if they're pretty or not, etc. It's a whole lot of judgement going on in a split second and I just want to be left alone with my girly clothes, please! That's why I look straight ahead when I walk and try not to stare at other people, I'm trying to break the negative habit! Dressing up makes me super happy and is an automatic mood lifter. Can I get an "mhhmm, amen sister" ladies? Eh? Ehh?

But the main reason I dressed up was because I had an exam today. I'm not joking! I always dress up on exam days because I think that if I do dress up, the exam will somehow be nicer to me... Look good and everything will be good to you? I know it sounds superficial, don't judge me :) But the power of cute clothing, lemme tell ya, is something that can't be topped.
